Nearly $50,000 in revenues from NH Bike Week
LACONIA, N.H. (AP) - City officials in Laconia, N.H., estimate the annual Motorcycle Week brought in close to $50,000 in revenues. Revenue for the event is raised primarily through vending licenses. The city places the proceeds into a fund to help pay for providing police, fire, and public works services for the following year's event. Earlier this year, the City Council used money from the Bike Week fund to purchase two portable defibrillators and to make sewer-water improvements on the Lakeside Avenue boardwalk. In adopting the 2012-2013 municipal budget last month, the council also agreed to use Bike Week money to buy a police cruiser and a fire-prevention utility vehicle. This would leave a balance of $129,000 in the account.

Quality Lifts: Certification a must for Liability, Insurance & OSHA

We received an inquiry today from a local customer about a Quality Lift that I thought was worthy of translating into a blog post. This is a common question about the car lifts we sell and thought it might be good to share the answer with the world. Please note the certifications - if you own an auto repair shop, certifications are absolute necessities. Hi Clark Been doing a little checking around on the lifts. This one has more capacity than yours and is $500 less. Is this a good lift? What is the difference compared to yours? Here was our response: 1. The electric pump assembly and reservoir are of much lesser quality. It is not uncommon for these to need replacement in 3 years or less. Our lift uses an SPX pump, which is the standard in U.S. 2. The above symbol and certification is very important for liability (accidents), insurance, and for OSHA approval. If your shop is ever visited by OSHA a lift without these certifications does not meet their standards. The Quality Q10 2 post lift meets every certification *ANSI, *ALI, *ETL. The other lift meets none. 3. Versatility of the 3 stage front arms allow correct weight distribution and balancing for mounting vehicles within weight range. 4. The Quality Q10 uses nylon bearing surfaces behind each carriage unit that allows years of operation without binding during up and down travel of carriage within column. 5. Q10 has single point lock release meaning you can operate up and down from 1 station right at the power supply. With the 2 point lock release you have to walk to both sides and manually release the safety locks. This can be a pain, especially when you are busy. 6. Base plate design. The Q10 has welded gussets and a solid base plate, not an add-on piece for stability. 7. Service, if needed I am right down the street. *ANSI (American National Standards Institute): As the voice of the U.S. standards and conformity assessment system, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) empowers its members and constituents to strengthen the U.S. marketplace position in the global economy while helping to assure the safety and health of consumers and the protection of the environment. * ALI (Automotive Lift Institute, Inc): In 1992, ALI selected Intertek Testing Services, then known as ETL Testing Laboratories, as its strategic partner in developing and administering the first independently verified product certification program for the automotive lift industry. The resulting program launched in 1993 and the first "ALI Directory of Certified Lifts" was published in October of the same year. In addition to administering and validating the ALI Certification Program, Intertek is one of two independent laboratories recognized by ALI and nationally accredited to perform evaluations in accordance with ANSI/UL 201. This approach to product certification allows for “one-stop shopping” for lift manufacturers, and more specifically, Intertek offers ALI’s Certification Program participants:

  • Electrical safety listing services for all regions within North America (Nationally Recognized Electrical Listing Mark);
  • Testing and preparation for CE Marking (European Technical File Services); and
  • Consolidated testing and follow-up inspections.  This streamlines the process of getting the product to market.
  • Administration and testing evaluations supporting the ALI program are coordinated from the 160,000 square-foot Intertek facility in Cortland, New York. ALI/ETL witness testing is performed by the Certification Program Administrator’s staff at the manufacturer’s facility regardless of country of origin.

* ETL (Originally a mark of ETL Testing Laboratories, now a mark of Intertek Testing Services) is a global leader in testing inspection and certification services. They are a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory and tests products to UL, CSA and CE standards.

New Hampshire ranked eighth-friendliest state for doing business

By KATHLEEN CALLAHAN New Hampshire Business Review Just how friendly is New Hampshire to small businesses? Pretty friendly, according to yet another report that ranks the state’s small-business climate. New Hampshire is the nation’s eighth-friendliest state for doing business and the fifth-friendliest state in which to start a business, according to the survey, which was done in partnership with Thumbtack.com and the Kauffman Foundation. It polled 6,000 of the small-business owners who use the website, which helps users to find local service providers such as wedding photographers, auto mechanics, and yoga instructors. “There are a lot of ‘business climate rankings,’ but there aren’t any that draw upon considerable data from small-business owners themselves,” said the website in a release. According to a Web designer in Lebanon polled for the survey, the state has “many networking sites and affiliate programs available for training,” which “makes it easy to network with new customers along with gained valuable knowledge and support.” The survey found there to be a gender gap among the small-business owners polled, with the male respondents 15 percent more likely than female respondents to rate their company’s current financial situation as “good” or “very good.” Political affiliation also played a role, with conservative small-business owners 27 percent more likely than their liberal counterparts to rate their business’s financial situation positively.

One general contractor in Seabrook said the state’s lack of sales tax was a major advantage of doing business, allowing “small New Hampshire business to buy and sell at a slightly more competitive rate than our Massachusetts neighbors.” The state scored an A grade for the ease of starting a business, its tax code and ease of licensing. But it got a ‘C’ for health and safety regulations and zoning laws and a ‘D’ for hiring costs. And even though the state ranked high nationally, business owners in the state are apparently a pessimistic bunch. The state ranked 45th nationally for its share of business owners who are optimistic about their company’s financial situation in the coming year.

Eastwood Tig200 Welder Review. And See it in Action!

 "I have been TIG welding for many years using now dated but high quality equipment. This welder has amazing capabilities for its size and certainly for its price. The inverter technology has come a long way allowing this size machine to have both DC & AC welding capacity without high frequency. I have welded steel, stainless and aluminum with great success and smooth arc initiation. New or old to TIG welding, you will be happy with your purchase."
